I Want You To Want Me...

This is my all-time favorite movie, has been for years. It's the movie that made me fall in love with Heath Ledger & Julia Stiles, both of which are amazing actors. If you haven't seen the movie or don't know the Shakespeare play, The Taming of the Shrew, here's a bit of background....

The movie revolves around 2 sisters: Kat (3rd from left) & Bianca (5th from left), who couldn't be more different. Older sister Kat is a moody activist who is the embodyment of the female right's movement, while younger sister Bianca wants nothing more than to be popular...oh...and to date. Dating for Bianca is harder than finding the right guy. Dad won't allow her to date until Kat does.

Cameron (far right) is Bianca's French tutor who has a not so secret cush on her. When Bianca tells him about the "dating rule", he and friend Michael come up with a plan to fiind the guy that will sweep Kat off her feet. Enter Patrick (center), resident bad boy. Cameron conspires with Joey (2nd from left), the jerk, who is also trying to date Bianca, to pay Patrick to take Kat out.

Long story short, the plan backfires. Kat eventually finds out about Patrick being paid to date her, even though he developed true feelings for her during the movie. At the end of the movie Kat writes a poem for her English class titled 10 Things I Hate About You" It's all irony though, because the things she hates about him are actually the things she loves. Like your typical teen drama, everyone lives happily ever after....or at least everything is fine in the kingdom for now.

So imagine my excitment when I found out that my favorite movie was being made into a tv show for ABC Family. At first I had my doubts. I mean, how can you try to replace the epicness that is Heath Ledger & Julia Stiles into a 30 minute sitcom for teen girls? I watched the sneek peek that itunes let me download a week early just a few hours ago. The show follows some of the same basic outline of the movie. All the main characters have the same names and personality types. In order for the show to go on longer than one season, the story line had to be tweeked a bit. Kat & Bianca are the new students at school. Cameron still develops a crush on Bianca, but her only goal is to become popular and BFF with head cheerleader Chasity. Joey, so far, isn't the same jerk he is in the movie, but I can see the story line going that way. There is definitely a possibility that something will happen between him & Bianca. Patrick...I'm really not sure what to say about him. He doesn't seem as bad boy as Heath Ledger made the character.

It's going to be interesting to see where ABC Family takes the show. The acting is fairly decent for a sitcom. I was a little nervous, seeing as some of these actors have been in a few other things and once you've played a role, you're recognized as that character for life..

I would definitely give this show a chance. It premieres on ABC Family tonight at 7 CST/8 EST.
