Title is a really good country song if you haven't heard it...I can't remember who it's by, but it's an oldie that I love...but seriously guys...
Drunk driving is something near & dear to my heart. 2 of my uncles were killed because they decided to go out and get drunk then get behind the wheel of a car. It is something that has shaped how I view driving and will effect me for the rest of my life. Car accidents are not something to joke about. I take car safety VERY seriously. Your life is more important than that sip of beer, the phone call or text message or whatever song is on the radio. Don't EVER do something while in a vehicle that could endanger your life.
I was on my way to the mall in the next town over tonight with my little sister. There's this HUGE hill that we have to go over in-order to get there. At the bottom of the hill we saw the flashing red and blue lights of a police car...actually several police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances. We automatically assumed an car accident. The sight of any kind of traffic accident makes both of us physically sick after dealing with everything from my uncles' accident. Traffic was stopped on both sides of the highway. They finally let us crawl through using the turn lane. As we drove by you could see bottles of alcohol littering the side of the road. A family of about 4 or 5 stood on the side of the road next to their demolished mini van, clinging to each other. They were shaken up and distraught. I don't know how serious it was or the injuries sustained by those involved but the fact remains...drunk driving is DANGEROUS!!
Guys this is SERIOUS! The decisions you make not only effect you & your family, but others that you don't even know that they effect. The choice in taking that sip of alcohol and getting behind the wheel or answering that text from cute math class boy could be the last thing you do. I'm not trying to be depressing or scare you, but I want you to understand the seriousness of this issue. I don't like to be depressing, but if that's what it takes for me to save you from making a decision that could be your last...so be it.
I've been at school with people not knowing that that was the last day I was going to see them alive. It was the same way with my uncles. Would I have done something different had I know that this was how it was going to end? Who knows. You're life is too important to not only you, but your family, friends...there are people out there that you don't even know look up to you and respect you that will show up at your funeral one day. Don't make that day come before it's suppose to.
I love you guys. That's why I've said all this. Please don't drink & drive. You're life is too important, to precious to have thrown away because you made a reckless decision.
<3 Jen
